The short version: Your data is yours. We store only what's needed for memory to work. We never sell it, never share it, never train on it.
Who we are
HiMem ("we", "us", "our") is a memory layer service for AI tools, operated at himem.ai. Contact us at support@himem.ai.
What we collect
When you use HiMem, we collect and store:
- Your email address (for account creation and key delivery)
- Your API key (generated by us, used to authenticate your requests)
- Conversation context you choose to save (project notes, session summaries, threads)
- AI session messages saved by the browser extension (only when auto-save is enabled)
- Project names and settings you configure
We do not collect: passwords, payment card details (handled by Stripe), precise location, or any data beyond what is explicitly sent to our API.
How we store your data
All data is stored in secure data infrastructure within the United States. Your data is namespaced under your API key — only requests authenticated with your key can access your data.
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. No employee has routine access to your stored conversation content.
How we use your data
Your data is used exclusively to provide the HiMem service:
- Loading and saving project context across AI sessions
- Generating memory summaries and thread tracking
- Semantic search over your conversation history
- Delivering your API key via email
We never use your data to train AI models. We never sell your data to third parties. We never use your conversation content for advertising.
Browser extension
The HiMem browser extension operates on AI chat pages (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and others listed in the extension manifest). It:
- Reads conversation messages from the page to save session history (only when auto-save is enabled)
- Injects your stored context into the AI input field (only when you click the button or press Enter)
- Stores your API key and project name locally in browser storage
- Sends conversation data only to api.himem.ai — never to any third party
The extension does not read any pages outside of the listed AI chat platforms.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your data at any time:
- Individual memories: via the
forgettool or API - Project context: via
POST /context/savewith empty content - Full account deletion: email support@himem.ai — we will delete all data within 7 days
When your subscription expires, your data is retained for 30 days before deletion, giving you time to export.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services:
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe handles all card data; we never see your card details.
- AWS — infrastructure, CDN, and storage.
- Email — transactional email delivery (API key emails only).
Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We do not share your conversation data with any of them.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including:
- Access to the data we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion of your data
- Portability of your data (export via API)
- Objection to processing

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users. Continued use of HiMem after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
